The butterflies were reared in average temperatures of 18C but with peaks during the day of up to 30c and lows of 14c at night.
We see Butterflies nectaring on a wide variety of flower heads in the countryside and occasionally in our garden. Their offspring may attempt to breed again or migrate south as the colder weather of autumn approaches.

Having another dash of yellow alongside the early flying Brimstone Butterfly brightening up the spring days would certainly be welcomed. Only 34 reports of the Clouded Yellow were submitted since 1995 with most records from the Knebworth Park area. The author had the opportunity of observing a number in the act of pupating, the process usually occupying about twenty minutes, from the splitting of the larval skin down the thorax until the last writhings of the pupa to firmly anchor the hooks into the silk. The safe delivery of any purchase is paramount so we take great care with packaging all items. Lotus corniculatus and Goat's Rue Galega officinalis (Wood, 2016). Flight time(s): Typically seen June to October. 'Clouded Yellow Years' occur when large numbers of migrants arrive. The 2016 and some of the 2017 birds are marked with PINK over BTO metal or metal over PINK on the left leg but we have just started on the next left leg sequence which is ORANGE over BTO metal or BTO metal over ORANGE.
Small numbers were still being recorded at the end of November.
