The dark side path is much less dramatic, with Kyle killing Jan and not crash-landing the Moldy Crow, and then fighting Yun to the death. The level where you first get to use it on enemies is made all the sweeter just like it was in 2002. The powerup itself even resembles armour. However, it’s sad that many of the maps in Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast will be locked on the original game.
The Imperial Repeater Rifle combines some of the best elements of the Bryar Pistol and the Stormtrooper Rifle, namely accuracy. Every time players stop to save, an additional file will be added and a little over halfway through the game I was told that I had no more room for saves. Much of the game becomes platforming in the latter half and loading saves can randomly cause Kyle to run without any input from the player. At the end of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, Kyle abandoned the force so throughout Jedi Outcast, he eventually is drawn back to it. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is a game which you take on the role of Kyle Katarn who is forced to take up arms and make use of the power that almost destroyed him. Movie references are also sprinkled throughout making for a game that still feels like it takes place eight years after the original trilogy. Force Destruction in the capable hands of Jerec is shown to be powerful enough to fatally cripple a docked capital ship, but in actual gameplay it doesn't do much more than hit.
Players will take on the role of Kyle Katarn, a Jedi who sits somewhere between the light side and the dark side.
Boc destroys Kyle's lightsaber, and just as Sariss is about to kill him, Yun defends Kyle and gets killed instead. Jerec is shown to be without eyes (originally, he was intended to be a human whose dark side nature caused his eyes to rot away; eventually he was retconned into an eyeless humanoid species called the Miraluka), yet Force Blinding works on him perfectly fine in-game (although you can argue that Force Blinding would cut off his ability to see through the Force as well).

It's encountered in the beginning of level 17, but it's vacant and you don't get to fight it.

You can't beat Kyle in combat. Some of the darkside powers can be this as well. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and its sequel Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy have a cult following of players that still go back to each game for the deeply satisfying lightsaber combat. Sometimes it would require multiple loading screens to finally get Kyle to stop moving with some forceful pushes on the analog stick. Sometimes this requires the player to look in very unconventional places, and that’s not an exaggeration at all. This isn’t necessarily a glitch but it was still annoying that I was forced to go into my data and delete files.

While it burns everything in sight, literally, it cannot be switched off until your mana completely runs out, making it a waste on anything smaller than very large groups of enemies. The solution is usually right in front of you in a place you wouldn’t expect. For whatever reason, the game also doesn’t let you have one primary save. While Star Wars Dark Forces was probably one of the first SW games I played in my childhood, Dark Forces II was actually the one, which showed what Star Wars was like besides the adventures of Luke Skywalker.
It doesn’t take long to get a lightsaber though and it certainly acts as a heavy motivation moving forward in the game. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is undeniably a classic. Study the hieroglyphics in the room where you fight him. The carbonite gun in the expansion pack turns enemies into blocks of, well, carbonite, which you can destroy with your lightsaber. Kyle gets goaded into killing Maw in a fit of rage, and then Jerec comes in and reveals that Jan's been captured, and tries to get Kyle to kill her (he does in the dark side path, leading to Qu Rahn abandoning him).
