Yes it is modern but it also has a great deal of history too.It is also home to one of the best museums of it's type in the world,the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations.

But... a lot of guidebooks and online resources make it seem as if Ankara is "just" a modern city, not really worth the trip, except for one or two exceptional museums. you are already passing through the city". I am rather annoyed at guide books that say "oh it is just a modern city"and wonder if the writers have actually been there!
