AVC: What do you hope the dramatization of this story brings to it that people couldn’t get from reading the memoir or watching the documentary? The show has taken longer to come out, and now that it is, I can step away from the 100-percent reality of it, and be able to just make a TV show that probably isn’t exactly what I would have made four years ago, you know? How did you approach that? When I saw [John and Noah’s] tapes, they were the first or second tapes that I saw, and I was like, “Must we continue? Her birth name is Mathilde Notaro.
